UPDATE FROM APPLE: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT6672

**************************************************************

Apple has pulled this bad update.

This update installed on any Mac today makes ethernet ports stop working!  DO NOT INSTALL!!!

I suggest running softwareupdate --schedule off as root to disable updates until Apple fixes this.

The update is:

031-51913 Incompatible Kernel Extension Configuration Data 3.28.1

For some reason it blacklists the BCM5701 driver. Apple must have been testing something and this version of the blacklist escaped into the wild.

If you already installed it the fix is to boot into recovery mode and restore the folder:

/System/Library/Extensions/AppleKextExcludeList.kext

from a recent Time Machine backup or another Mac running the same software version.

I posted about it on MacRumors here:

http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/software-update-031-51913-will-break-your-ethernet-driver.1958521/

If you run/work for any Mac oriented news sites it'd be nice to get the word out. If this stays broken until Monday there are going to be a lot of pissed off Mac users come next week.
